Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Aloe Vera
Source: Cold-pressed from the inner leaf of the aloe vera plant.
Skin: Instantly calms redness, sunburn, and irritation. Delivers lightweight, non-greasy hydration and supports the skin barrier.
Hair: Soothes a dry or itchy scalp; adds moisture without weighing strands down.
Aqua Purified Water
Source: Purified water, the universal solvent and base of water-based formulas.
Skin: Provides the lightweight, spreadable base that allows all other ingredients to absorb effectively.
Benzoic Acid
Source: Naturally present in many plants, berries, and resins; used here in its purified form.
Skin: A mild preservative that prevents microbial growth, keeping formulas safe and stable without disrupting skin.
Butyrospermum Parkii Butter Shea Butter
Source: Cold-pressed from the nuts of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa).
Skin: Rich in fatty acids (oleic, stearic, linoleic) and vitamins A and E. Deeply moisturizes, reduces transepidermal water loss, and calms inflammation. Particularly effective on dry, cracked, or eczema-prone skin.
Hair: Seals the cuticle, reduces frizz, and adds shine without buildup.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Source: Derived from coconut oil and glycerin through a process called fractionation.
Skin: An exceptionally lightweight emollient that spreads easily, absorbs quickly, and leaves a silky, non-greasy finish. Helps other actives penetrate the skin more effectively.
Hair: Adds slip and softness; useful as a lightweight conditioning agent.
Candelilla Wax Euphorbia Cerifera
Source: Harvested from the candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. 100% plant-based and vegan.
Skin: Creates a protective barrier on the skin's surface that locks in moisture and provides water resistance. Gives balms and sunscreens their structure.
Carnauba Wax Copernicia Cerifera
Source: Extracted from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree, native to Brazil. One of the hardest natural waxes available.
Skin: Provides structure, texture, and water resistance in balms and sunscreens. Forms a breathable protective layer on the skin.
Cetearyl Alcohol
Source: A plant-derived fatty alcohol, typically sourced from coconut or palm oil. Despite the name, it is not a drying alcohol.
Skin: Conditions and softens skin, stabilizes emulsions, and improves the texture and spreadability of creams and lotions.
Hair: Detangles, adds softness, and reduces frizz — a common ingredient in conditioners for good reason.
Citric Acid
Source: Naturally found in citrus fruits; commercially produced through fermentation of sugars.
Skin: Used to balance the pH of formulas so they work in harmony with the skin's natural acid mantle (pH 4.5–5.5). Also a mild AHA that supports gentle exfoliation at higher concentrations.
Cocoa Seed Butter Theobroma Cacao
Source: Cold-pressed from the roasted seeds (beans) of the cacao tree, native to tropical regions of the Americas.
Skin: High in stearic and oleic fatty acids, cocoa butter melts at body temperature and absorbs deeply. Improves skin elasticity, reduces the appearance of scars, and provides long-lasting moisture.
Hair: Seals the hair shaft, reduces breakage, and adds a natural sheen.
Coco-Glucoside
Source: Made from coconut oil and glucose (from corn or wheat starch). Fully biodegradable and ocean-safe.
Skin: A gentle, non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier that helps oil and water blend smoothly. Mild enough for sensitive and reactive skin.
Coconut Oil Cocos Nucifera
Source: Cold-pressed from the dried meat (copra) of mature coconuts.
Skin: Rich in lauric acid, which has natural antimicrobial properties. Deeply moisturizing and helps restore the skin barrier. Best suited for dry or normal skin types.
Hair: One of the few oils that can penetrate the hair shaft. Reduces protein loss, adds shine, and protects against damage.
Dehydroacetic Acid
Source: A synthetic compound derived from diketene; used in cosmetics as a broad-spectrum preservative.
Skin: Effective against bacteria, yeast, and mold at low concentrations. Gentle and well-tolerated, often paired with benzyl alcohol for a balanced preservative system.
Glyceryl Stearate
Source: Derived from glycerin and stearic acid, both of which can be sourced from plant oils.
Skin: An emulsifier that gives creams and butters their smooth, stable texture. Also acts as a mild moisturizer by helping the skin retain water.
Iron Oxides CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499
Source: Naturally occurring mineral pigments found in the earth; cosmetic-grade iron oxides are synthetically produced to ensure purity and consistency.
Skin: Used in tinted sunscreens to provide a skin-tone blending effect. Also offer additional protection against visible light and blue light.
Jojoba Seed Oil Simmondsia Chinensis
Source: Cold-pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, native to the Sonoran Desert of North America. Technically a liquid wax, not an oil.
Skin: Structurally similar to the skin's own sebum, making it exceptionally compatible. Balances oil production, soothes irritation, and provides long-lasting hydration without clogging pores.
Hair: Conditions the scalp, reduces dandruff, and adds moisture and shine to the hair shaft.
Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate
Source: Produced through the fermentation of radish root by Leuconostoc kimchii bacteria — the same process used in making kimchi.
Skin: A natural, microbiome-friendly preservative that inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. Supports the skin's natural microbial balance rather than disrupting it.
Mango Seed Butter Mangifera Indica
Source: Cold-pressed from the seeds inside mango fruit pits, a byproduct of the mango industry.
Skin: Rich in stearic and oleic acids, mango butter absorbs readily and softens skin without a greasy residue. Supports the skin barrier and has mild emollient and anti-inflammatory properties.
Hair: Adds moisture and softness; helps tame frizz and improve manageability.
Phenoxyethanol
Source: Naturally found in green tea; cosmetic-grade phenoxyethanol is produced synthetically for consistency and purity.
Skin: A widely used, well-studied preservative effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and yeast. Considered one of the gentler preservative options available.
Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate
Source: Derived from castor oil (ricinoleic acid) and glycerin — both plant-based.
Skin: An emulsifier used in anhydrous (water-free) formulas like sunscreens to ensure even distribution of mineral UV filters. Helps the formula blend smoothly onto skin.
Potassium Sorbate
Source: The potassium salt of sorbic acid, which occurs naturally in the berries of the mountain ash tree. Widely used in food and cosmetics.
Skin: A mild, effective preservative that prevents mold and yeast growth. Works best in combination with other preservatives and at a slightly acidic pH.
Raspberry Seed Oil Rubus Idaeus
Source: Cold-pressed from the seeds of red raspberries.
Skin: Exceptionally high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and natural tocopherols (vitamin E). Antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory; supports skin repair and provides a degree of natural UV protection. Absorbs quickly without residue.
Hair: Nourishes the scalp and adds shine; the fatty acid profile supports hair strength and elasticity.
Sea Buckthorn Fruit Oil Hippophae Rhamnoides
Source: Cold-pressed from the bright orange berries of the sea buckthorn shrub, native to coastal and mountainous regions of Europe and Asia.
Skin: One of the most nutrient-dense plant oils available. Contains vitamins C, E, A, and K, as well as rare omega-7 fatty acids. Supports skin regeneration, reduces redness, and improves elasticity. The deep orange color indicates its high carotenoid content.
Hair: Nourishes the scalp, supports hair growth, and adds luster.
Silica
Source: A naturally occurring mineral compound (silicon dioxide) found in sand, quartz, and many plants.
Skin: Used in sunscreens and powders to absorb excess oil and create a smooth, matte, non-greasy finish. Improves the feel and wearability of the formula on skin.
Sodium Benzoate
Source: The sodium salt of benzoic acid, which occurs naturally in many fruits including cranberries, prunes, and apples.
Skin: A mild, widely accepted preservative that prevents bacterial and fungal growth. Most effective at acidic pH levels, making it well-suited for skin-compatible formulas.
Sunflower Seed Oil Helianthus Annuus
Source: Cold-pressed from the seeds of sunflowers (Helianthus annuus), one of the most widely cultivated oilseed crops.
Skin: High in linoleic acid (omega-6), which is essential for maintaining the skin barrier. Lightweight, non-comedogenic, and rich in vitamin E. Absorbs quickly and is suitable for all skin types including acne-prone skin.
Hair: Adds shine and softness; the linoleic acid content supports scalp health and reduces inflammation.
Titanium Dioxide (Non-Nano) CI 77891
Source: A naturally occurring mineral found in the earth's crust, processed into a fine powder for cosmetic use. Non-nano particle size means it does not penetrate the skin or enter the bloodstream.
Skin: A physical (mineral) UV filter that reflects and scatters UVA and UVB rays. Gentle on sensitive skin, reef-conscious, and free from the concerns associated with chemical UV filters.
Tocopherol Vitamin E
Source: Derived from plant oils, most commonly sunflower, soybean, or wheat germ oil through cold-press extraction.
Skin: A fat-soluble antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals caused by UV exposure and environmental pollution. Supports skin healing, reduces inflammation, and helps maintain the skin barrier. Also extends the shelf life of formulas by preventing oxidation of other oils.
Hair: Protects the scalp from oxidative stress; adds shine and supports a healthy hair growth environment.
Xanthan Gum
Source: Produced through the fermentation of sugars (often corn or soy) by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris.
Skin: A natural thickener and stabilizer that gives lotions and creams their smooth, even consistency. Helps ingredients stay evenly distributed throughout the formula and improves spreadability on skin.
Zinc Oxide (Non-Nano)
Source: A naturally occurring mineral compound derived from zinc ore. Non-nano particle size ensures it remains on the skin's surface and does not penetrate into the bloodstream.
Skin: The gold standard of mineral sun protection. Provides true broad-spectrum coverage against both UVA and UVB rays. Also has natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it beneficial for acne-prone and sensitive skin. Reef-safe and free from synthetic chemical UV filters.
